Regent Christian Academy is excited to announce Cantabile 2018.  November 2 – 3, 2018.

Cantabile is a two-day intensive concert band retreat with two well-respected Christian guest conductors directing and encouraging the students. Students will participate in mass ensemble rehearsals and performances with students from Christian schools throughout BC.

Cantabile caters to Christian schools in BC and has the potential to have up to 200 participants.

INVITATION:  Your school is invited to be a part of this wonderful opportunity. It will cost each student
$75 for the two days.  The cost includes all meals a t-shirt, a music pencil & a folder for each participant.  The retreat begins on Friday morning and finishes on Saturday night.

Guest Conductors

Dr. Allan Thorpe

Dr. Thorpe has been on faculty at TWU since 1995; with many prior years teaching music theory (Rudiments, Harmony and Aural Skills); and has been a professional orchestral musician since the mid-1980s. At Trinity Western University he enjoys a variety of responsibilities in both academic and applied areas of music. Conducting Concert Band, coaching small ensembles, teaching harmony and serving as musical director for SAMC’s musicals are just some of the activities that occupy him on campus.

James Caswell (B. Ed. Music Education, M. Ed)

James was born and raised in Saskatchewan. He has been invited to compete at the national level twelve times on three instruments. As a member of various ensembles, he has been recorded by CBC twice and performed for Queen Elizabeth II.

James has been active in music ministry for over 30 years and has served as Music Pastor in churches in Manitoba, Ontario, and British Columbia. An instrumental specialist, James taught music at Pacific Academy in Surrey, BC, for 17 years, conducting and instructing Concert and Jazz Bands, Vocal Jazz, Concert Choir, Orchestra, Composition, Arranging, Music Sequencing, guitar, and Worship Ensembles where he writes arrangements for all instrumentalists who wish to be involved. His bands, jazz bands and choirs have achieved numerous gold and superior standings at festivals since 1987. James currently serves as Arts Coordinator at White Rock Christian Academy, where he teaches band, choir, jazz and IB music.  He teaches on the faculty of Summit Pacific College and is active in his church’s music ministry, where he also served as Creative Arts Pastor.
